It’s been a bittersweet day. I turned in Alyssa’s keys to her apartment in Atlanta, officially ending her seven years living there. She’d actually moved to Arkansas a couple of weeks ago, so it was just me today. I thought I’d make it a special occasion, visiting some of the places we used to go.
First, I went by her apartment as if to get her. Then, I drove to the former location of Sprouts in Sandy Springs, our favorite grocery store. It’s a Trader Joe’s now. I went inside, but didn’t stay long and didn’t buy anything.
Next, I went by her apartment. I took one last picture of her door. Back during the pandemic, I’d make monthly no contact care package deliveries and take a picture of Alyssa standing outside the door, so the rest of the family could see her, too.
Then, it was time to get her remaining mail, turn in the keys, and officially leave the apartment.
Finally, I went to our favorite vegan restaurant, Dulce, for lunch. But they were short staffed today, so no lunch items. I got a flavored tea and came home.
The Alyssa in Atlanta chapter is over now, replaced by the Alyssa in Arkansas chapter. I hope and pray it will be as good as the last one was.
